HALM straws are transparent and made from 100% pure glass. They are BPA-free and do not contain any other toxic residues like lead or petroleum, which are commonly used colored straws.

Glass Straws are the best solution for people with sensitive teeth. They have smooth rounded ends that provide you with the most comfortable drinking experience for both your favorite cold and hot drinks.

Store your glass straws safely upright in a container on your kitchen bench, or in a kitchen drawer. If your straws should accidentally fall, they will remain intact in most cases. However, if it does break on very hard surfaces, the glass should be safely removed and placed directly into the glass recycling container. Glass straws are suitable for children 3 years and above under parental supervision.

HALM glass straws are produced exclusively in Germany. The glass itself is made in our own glassworks in Thuringia — with over 60 years of glassmaking experience — and is then finished and shipped from Berlin. This keeps our production and supply chains short and environmentally friendly.

Our straws are made in our own glassworks. The glass mixture is melted and drawn in the furnace, and by flaming both ends each straw gets its signature rounded edges for a uniquely smooth mouthfeel. In the final step the glass is annealed to release any internal stress, which makes every HALM extra stable.

Extremely durable. HALM uses high-quality German glass in a carefully balanced ratio of inner diameter to wall thickness, and every straw passes a double quality check — making HALM roughly twice as stable as ordinary glass straws. They withstand around 3,000+ dishwasher cycles. Of course a straw is still made of glass and can break if it's dropped on a very hard surface — but in most cases the drinking glass will break before the HALM does.

Like any glass, a HALM can break — but with a breakage rate of under 0.01% this is very rare. And if one ever does break, it breaks into large, easy-to-collect pieces rather than tiny shards, and can simply be recycled with your regular glass.

No. HALM straws are made from high-quality, extremely stable German glass. The edges can't chip, so there's no risk of injury, and the glass is strong enough that it can't be bitten through. HALM is completely safe — even for children ages 3 and up under adult supervision.

Every HALM has a 6 mm inner diameter (about ¼ inch) — wide enough for even the thickest smoothie — and an outer diameter of about 9 mm for the perfect mouthfeel, with walls thick enough to keep the straw stable.

HALM glass withstands temperatures from -40°C to 200°C (-40°F to 392°F), so they're perfect for everything from ice-cold smoothies to hot coffee and tea.

HALM straws are only offered in clear, transparent glass — and that's on purpose. Transparency is the only way to see that a straw is perfectly clean, and it keeps the product 100% sustainable, since most straw colorings are made from petroleum.

Glass straws are dishwasher friendly and also can be easily cleaned on the go with a glass straw brush.

For best results, place your glass straws at home in your dishwasher upright in your Silverware basket. Alternatively, they can be placed directly onto dishwasher stems so the water runs through easily, from inside and out. If your dishwasher has a top draw for your silverware, you can also place straws here, we recommend rinsing out any dried-up drink pieces before laying down.

Each HALM package includes a plastic-free cleaning brush for extra cleaning, or if you do not have a dishwasher. Simply run your straws under the faucet water with some dishwashing liquid and slide the brush through the straw, rinse and dry upright.

Yes, included in every HALM straw package is a single cleaning brush made from plastic-free natural bristles. Each brush is custom made to the straw length you ordered. To prevent the brush from bending, we recommend using your cleaning brush with water and dishwashing liquid to ensure the brush can slide through your glass straws easily.

Yes. The generous 6 mm inner diameter lets water flow straight through the straw, rinsing it thoroughly inside and out. Placed upright in your dishwasher's cutlery basket, a HALM actually gets more hygienic than a regular drinking glass. For any stubborn residue, soak the straw briefly in water first.

Easy — use the plastic-free cleaning brush included with every set. Just run the straw under the faucet with a little dish soap, slide the brush through, then rinse and dry it upright. Need a replacement brush? You'll find them in our Online Shop 👈

Yes. Thanks to the larger inner diameter, water flows through easily and the straws dry quickly. We recommend leaving them upright in the basket for about 15 minutes after washing so any remaining water can drip out.

Water spots depend on how hard (calcium-rich) your tap water is — a HALM behaves just like a normal drinking glass. If your glasses tend to get water spots, your straws may show them too; using a rinse aid or descaler in the dishwasher helps prevent them.

In our experience a HALM lasts at least 3,000 dishwasher cycles before it may start to look cloudy — and just like a drinking glass, this mainly depends on your water quality.

Our HALM glass straws are a 100% plastic-free product. Both HALM glass straws, brush and packaging are completely plastic-free. Yes. Even though glassmaking uses a hot furnace, HALM production runs on renewable energy and is made to strict ecological standards. A HALM creates no new waste — it can be reused for 1–2 years and then recycled with your regular glass. On top of that, every set sold supports worldwide cleanups through our Less Waste Initiative.
